Experiencing & enhancing design for MEP through BIM equipped technology

Glodon International (Singapore) Pte Ltd in collaboration with the Mechanical & Electrical Technical Committee of The Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), was humbled at the opportunity to impart technical knowledge and share the benefits of BIM with MagiCAD for Revit to esteem members of the AEC industry. The seminar was held at Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability on the 17th April 2018.

The drive for adoption of integrated, multi-disciplined BIM across the entire MEP project lifecycle, continues to grow significantly and enabling the engineers to be more efficient and productive. Over one hundred engineers in the various MEP disciplines attended the event. Featured speakers were Mr. Brett Saxby - Area Manager of MagiCAD, Mr. Peter Emanuelson - HVAC Engineer of MagiCAD, Mr. Edgar Chan – Technical Engineer of Glodon Singapore, and Mr. Marwin Alfred Eligoyo – BIM Manager of Meinhardt.

The introduction and development of MagiCAD in the APEC region, offering a powerful mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design functions and integrated engineering calculations for Revit, helps Singapore’s MEP market to ease their workload increasing efficiency and productivity during design or drafting stages.

The outline of the session consisted of topics catered to: decreasing design project costs, shortening project run-through time, achieving higher productivity with reliable and accurate design information. Through MagiCAD for Revit, the MEP designer has added functions and tools apart from the native Revit platform to enhance their BIM applications. Ultimately striving towards the goal of effortless digital design capabilities.

In addition, MagiCloud was introduced. An online BIM library that enables access to over one million 3D product models from leading industry manufacturers. Products are in accurate dimensions with comprehensive technical data.

Leading the way in BIM, the speakers discussed how MagiCAD integrates seamlessly within the Revit user interface, giving it a full usage potential. Applying the fast and easy-to-use tools with automated design functions, it improves BIM workflow and collaboration.

Based on the results from the 90 survey forms received, 76% of the attendees were Resident Technical Officer (M&E), 19% were Project Engineers, and others. A large number of them were from CPG Consultants Pte Ltd (15%), Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd (13%), and Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Pte Ltd (10%).

According to the survery results, the top three MagiCAD Modules that would be beneficial to the attendees were the Ventilation, Piping, and Electrical. The features that many agreed will be useful for them were the increase in design efficiency, faster engineering calculation, and effective collaboration. They understood that MagiCAD adoption will enable efficient work and reduce the time for design and drawing task. Lastly, more than half of the respondents answered that they are likely to use MagiCAD as it will significantly improve their work.
